Dr. James has experience teaching a wide range of marketing classes including Principles of Marketing, Consumer Behavior, Wine Marketing and Appreciation, Personal Selling, Business to Business Marketing, International Marketing, Public Relations, Sports Marketing, and Promotions with a social media focus.

Dr. James enjoys conducting research on a variety of marketing topics but specializes in value elements within the marketing mix. Dr. James has published work in the Journal of Business Research and European Business Review. Dr. James is also active in participating in a variety of marketing conferences around the world including The Academy of Marketing Science, American Marketing Association, and Society for Marketing Advances.

Implemented SAP and Category Management in the Classroom (2016 to present). Implemented SAP and Category Management into principles of marketing. Certificates are a part of the marketing department’s strategic plan to offer students value added industry certificates.
Developed Wine Marketing and Appreciation Course (2017). Designed and delivered Wine Marketing and Appreciation Course in better align university offerings with industry partners. Course delivered Fall 2017.
WSET 2 Certificate Earned (2018). Earned WSET2 certification in Wine and Spirits. Course was sponsored by industry partner Southern Glaziers. Certificate serves to improve teaching towards Wine Marketing Course.
Created and Delivered AMS Teaching Digital Marketing Certificate Program. 2017 and 2018 Academy of Marketing Science (AMS) Annual Meetings in Coronado and New Orleans. Presented material on best practices for teaching digital media including using Hubspot in the classroom, teaching practices for website design, and coordinating with industry to provide students real world projects. Over 100 academic professors from around the world attended to gain a certificate upon completion.

Developed Review Video for CBCE Accreditation Exam (Fall, 2016). Developed review video for students in Capstone Management Course to review marketing materials.
Grader for SACS Written Accreditation Exam (2016, 2017, 2018). Served as grader for written portion of AACSB student writing evaluations.
Committee Member for Ad hoc Strategic Planning Committee (2017-2018). Served as committee member for strategic planning committee. Represented marketing and management faculty to refine strategic plan for AACSB visit team.
Committee Member for Strategic Planning Committee (2019 to present). Served as committee member for strategic planning committee. Represented marketing discipline to refine and update strategic plan. Coordinated between marketing faculty, committee members, and dean to further develop and refine marketing’s strategic direction.
Business Plan Competition Coordinator (May 2017 to April 2018): Served as Marketing Plan Coordinator for joint Business Plan Competition including UT Tyler and Tyler Innovation Pipeline (TIP). Duties included developing format, marketing event, coordinating between UT Tyler Business School Dean, TIP, Judges, Mentors, and participants. Helped develop the many entries from raw idea to written business plan. Competition included an elevator pitch round where participants submitted youtube videos that were judged and either moved on or where excused from competition. Final event included a presentations where participants presented business plans at Liberty Hall.
Inaugural American Marketing Association Faculty Advisor (April 2019 to present): Serving as faculty advisor for the American Marketing Association (AMA) chapter at University of Texas at Tyler. Duties include registering chapter with AMA, UT Tyler, marketing chapter to students, enlisting student leaders, and developing and implanting schedule.

Dr. James loves all things sports related including football, basketball, and golf. He also enjoys running but is not very good at it. When Dr. James is not teaching, doing research, or watching/playing sports, he enjoys spending time with his lovely wife and son, Andrew and his two twin boys.
